THE SHORT ANSWER
In Cloud Keys, open Controls, choose Gamepad, and select the action you want to change. Release the controller buttons, press the physical button you want to use, then save. Test the result before returning to your game.
Before you start
This guide describes the Cloud Keys private beta for desktop Chrome. You need an installed, activated copy and a controller Chrome exposes with a standard gamepad layout. Wheels, pedals, and controllers that require custom axis layouts are not supported in this version.
Connect your controller, open the popup, and press a button. The Gamepad input option becomes available when a compatible device is detected. If it remains unavailable, follow the controller detection guide before changing mappings.
Disable other gamepad-remapping extensions for this test. Two remappers acting on the same button can make the result difficult to diagnose.
Choose where the change should apply
Under Controls → Input mode, select Gamepad. Leave the controller picker on Auto-detect for a single compatible device, or choose the specific controller you want to use.
Next, check Controls for. Choose your current game to save a layout just for it. Choose Default controls to change the baseline used by games without their own saved controller layout.
That selector chooses the profile you are editing. It does not launch a different game or make another Xbox tab use that profile. Each game uses its own detected settings.
Map a button and check the result
- In Gamepad mappings, click the output action you want to change, such as A.
- Release all controller buttons, then press just the physical button you want to assign.
- Read the assignment message and choose Save.
- Expand Test controller input. Press the button again and check which mapped action appears.
For example, assigning the physical B input to the A action means that pressing B sends A to the game. If B was already assigned to another action, Cloud Keys swaps the assignments when you save. It avoids accidentally making both actions fire from one press.
| Physical input | Sent to the game |
|---|---|
| B | A |
| A | B |
The popup uses Xbox-style button names. Printed labels on another controller may differ, so check the tester rather than relying only on the lettering. Use Unassign if you want an output action to have no physical button.
Tune, restore, and return to play
Stick settings lets you adjust sensitivity and deadzone separately for each stick, invert horizontal or vertical movement, and swap the sticks. Change one option at a time so you can judge its effect.
Restore default has two meanings depending on the selected profile: for a game, it removes that game’s controller override and returns to your default gamepad layout; for Default controls, it restores the standard one-to-one layout. Keyboard mappings are separate and stay unchanged.
Return focus to the Xbox tab and press a controller button. Gamepad mode does not need mouse capture. F8 bypasses or restores remapping; it does not pause the game itself.
Your settings stay in this browser and are not synced to other computers. If the controller disconnects, its mappings stay saved. Reconnect it and press a button to resume.
